DIY Football Party Inspiration

Football parties are typically about dips, drinks and of course, the game. While we're big fans of all of these things, we also like to make sure the design of the party matches the intensity of the most serious rivalries.

Today, we created a fun DIY table that incorporates just enough of that football spirit without taking up a ton of your time. Your guests will be talking about your fabulous décor in addition to the big plays (or commercials) of the game.

Create a simple yet colorful base for your table with a green table linen to capture the color of a football field then add a black and white striped table runner- we gotta give the refs a little love too! You can use ribbons in black and white placed down the length of the table for the same effect but we find one black and white striped fabric runner is the easiest way to pull off this look. This is just one detail that adds another football element as well as adding some variance to the color palette. See? You're already feeling like a party pro, aren't you?

Football fans love their jerseys but did you know they also make perfect chair covers? We found the blank jerseys at American Apparel and added iron on numbers to customize them. You can create the jerseys with your favorite player’s number or signify the year like we did for this shoot. You don't need a fancy iron, as you can see, and you can purchase the iron on numbers at your local craft store (large office supply stores usually have them too). Just make sure to follow the directions on the package when applying the numbers- you don't want them to melt but you want the iron hot enough to make them adhere to the fabric. Once your iron heats up, this DIY project is a cinch!

No table is complete without a cute menu so we cut strips of turf (purchased at a local home improvement store) and tucked them around the plate, adding yet another layer of texture to our table. We were inspired by traditional football stadium fare for the for the actual menu but you can get as creative as you want. Just add a cute image to the printed menu and you’re good to go!

For parties like this, you would be amazed at the extra little goodies you can find around your home. We had these small footballs and thought they would go perfectly at the top of the plates.

We created paper flags with football terms to match the menus, printed them on scrapbook paper then folded and glued them to the straws- FAB!

One more detail that is so easy it will blow your mind- the aluminum container with "4th Down" printed on it makes for a cool centerpiece. How did we do this? We just used a chalk pen (hit up that craft store again) and had someone with a steady hand create the design.

Popcorn sprinkled on the table top adds to the stadium feel...now you're ready to cheer on your team!
