When we set out to create and share Football Betty style party inspiration, sometimes we consider the rowdy sprinkle-loving kids and sometimes we consider the classy wine-loving adults but today, we're hoping to evoke a bit of nostalgia in all football fans. You know what we're talking about- think back to the days of football when the players barely wore any padding (ouch), tv was only shown in black and white and there was an innocence about the sport in general. Our walk down memory lane led us to design the loveliest retro bar cart inspiration and we're excited to share it with you today.
Cocktails and appetizers are THE classic way to get a party started. To begin, our retro bar cart features a Blackberry Blitz- a version of an old time whiskey "smash" which dates back to the 1800's- so it's a perfect choice for our retro vibe. This is a signature cocktail that the ladies will especially love (and it's pretty too!).
"Wet Your Whistle" with our Blackberry Blitz:
-1/2 lemon, sliced
-4 plump fresh blackberries
-2 oz whisky (we used Macallan 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky because we like the good stuff)
-1 oz simple syrup
-Garnish: Mint, Lemon, Blackberry on a skewer
Muddle lemon slices, blackberries and mint in a cocktail shaker. Add whisky and simple syrup and fill shaker with ice. Shake at least 10 times and strain into a glass filled with ice.
Did you notice the whistle draped around the whisky bottle and the eye black drink labels? That's what we do best- we add those little details to make our football parties memorable.
Our retro bar cart wouldn't be complete without a tried and true nostalgic snack- Ritz crackers (Ritz has been around since the early 1900's!). By topping these buttery rounds with creamy brie, a plump blackberry and a drizzle of honey, we infuse a modern take on a classic treat.
This appetizer is only made more perfect by warming the cracker and cheese in the oven for a few minutes to slightly melt the brie. Excuse us, we're going to need a minute...
See that cool Heisman appetizer plate? We went to an antique shop and picked it up along with a vintage football helmet- we knew they would be perfect for our retro bar cart!
We asked local florist Petal Pusher to create a few floral arrangements for us to soften the clean lines of the cart and they delivered- greenery and succulents pair well with orange and yellow flowers adding a pop of color without competing with our retro bar cart details.
Since American football originates back to the 1800's, we think it's fitting to celebrate the much loved game this season with some retro design, food and drink...enjoy!
